Grammars and dictionaries are artificial environments for languages. They reflect only a fraction of the diversity of a language in its everyday use and cannot capture the ever-changing nature of language.

This project started with the above sentence. Having started to collect words, I was realising they made no sense on their own. They were just little groups of letters that were meant to represent a meaning. I decided to create a work reflecting this statement. Without context (sentence) and usage, the words are not living things. To make the words live for me I planned a visual dictionary of the words I had started to collect. The first step was to make a small sample book of 26 words.

With this first wordbook finished, I have continued with the idea of a dictionary and began to experiment with different formats and techniques.
